Project Information

This is a hand plane that I made from part that I purchased from knight-toolworks.com . The sides and are made of red oak, the sole and adjustable throat are made of ipe wood, the wedge is bloodwood, and on the ends they are padouck. Look at the iron it is 1/4" thick! This plane is a true pleasure to use! Enjoy.

Nice wood shavings! What was the moisture content in the wood that you used? I imagine that it has to be pretty dry to avoid problems with shrinkage and such.

Thats got to feel good to make things with tools that you've made yourself. That is a neat looking plane, looks like it does the job too. Like all your stuff, well done carver and thanks for all the nice comments on my projects, comming from someone like you or mark d. I consider it high praise indeed. jockmike

That's a beautiful, & plain looking plane. It looks like it would be an easy one to make.

I know everyone will find this hard to believe but I can stand a piece of oak up on end in my vise and plane a shaving off of that upright end.

I'm really glad this came up on the home page. I've been thinking about making the Hock version. I guess I should look at Knight-Toolworks version.
