Project Information

This maple burl cap measures 20" across. The bottom is untouched, and is sharp and pointy! All hand carved/shaped and finished with several coats of shellac, then rubbed to a satin finish.

I've had this cap for several years, never knowing exactly what to do with it. Just finally decided to carve it out and leave the cap intact. All comments/suggestions welcomed. Thanks for lookin!

How about using it as an ash tray? Just kidding!

This looks pretty good as it is. I don't know that you could have done anything else with it. If it were mine I would glue it to the bases and use it as a decorative bowl. This is a very distinctive piece.

I think is very pretty, yes those eyes are very sharp I have scars to prove it. I have a couple pallets of burl laying around. Thanks for the inspiration, I think instead of just collecting them I see a few projects in my near future.

I would be afraid to touch a piece of wood like that. Especially with hand tools.

That looks great. Thanks for showing, and keep up the good work.

Beautiful it almost looks like something you would see snorkeling off a corral reef.

That is cool - I really like the finished/carved side. Talk about beauty and the beast :))

No suggestions here. I think it looks great just as it is.
