Project Information

I made this pick holder for my nephew, i saw the one on MereMortals and i liked it, but wanted to made it a little different, so i saw the plastic ones on amazon and thought, how hard could it be?

well it was not that hard!, the trouble i had was finding the springs, i was looking for them in all the hardware stores but none have them. so after i gave up on the idea, as i was doing some cleaning i found some clicky pens that had no ink, one of them was broke and i noticed the spring and then Eureka!, got my springs.

Putting it together i only had to do some minor adjustments, for the springs i had to make a little hole which were too little, so i just put some Epoxy on the springs and it worked pretty well. glue the top and bottom and then some sanding and varnish.

it works quite fine, i only had 3 plastic picks but i think it can hold like 20 or so, the wooden ones only 5.

here you can see it in action.

thanks

Nayo

Great Nayo! I'm sure it will get a lot of use and just about anyone should have a drawer full of 'clicky' pens that no longer work, but still haven't been tossed. Well done on repurposing -

Great! Now I will start hoarding ink pens. Seriously, great up grade to the pick box, Nayo! Maybe I can use some of my cut off pieces of wood to make storage containers for the springs! Do you make the picks as well? Thanks for sharing.

its not the name of those kind of pens "Clicky" well at least you know which one are they.
and yes, i did the wooden picks, i did not have a plastic one at hand and had to make one to try the mechanism.
and Candy, i used scraps in this big project!

Good job. When I made my pick holder I thought of doing something like what you have but couldn't figure it out. Again Good work.

I loved the bit about the pen springs. That came out cool.

Nice project! McMasterCarr is a good place to find springs (but you do have to pay for them ;)

My apologies - I wasn't aware that McMaster did not ship outside the US.

no need to, most of the stores dont ship here, and if they do, it expensive. thats why we have to be creative and find other options, like the clicky pens! :)
