Project Information

I carved this piece about 25 years ago. I named it "Passages" and sold it almost immediately. To this day, I regret selling it, because it has such a positive energy. It was carved from Honduras mahogany. The "earth" is a piece of stained glass. I have shown it here awhile ago, but it is grabbing my attention again. I need to refocus my energy on woodworking and keep my day job to buy tools :)

I hope you are all doing well..

Aloha,

Cathy

Awesome!

Did you add anything to the glass? My wife is always looking out for glass with special patterns that can be sectioned out and used for landscapes.

Good morning Splinter Group (I love that name). When I made that piece, we had at least six glass shops on Oahu. I often visited and when through the glass racks. This piece of glass was perfect. I cut it in a circle and framed it. The process was a little tricky, but it worked out okay.

I started an account on Instagram this past weekend to share some of my work. I immediately realized, I like Lumberjocks because I can discuss the process of creating a piece and maybe give an idea of a project to another woodworker. It is great to be back…Have a great day out there.

Cathy, you can always do another for yourself, with some variations to make it unique.

Very nice. Totally unique "Passage" piece. Good to hear your going to make another for yourself. The stained earth glass really compliment the pair.
Geez, Your post had us looking back at several things our kids have made us over the years. It doesn't take long for 25 years to pass by….

All the best !

Cathy, it is good to see your work again. Isn't it strange how some past works seem to haunt us. Sometimes I look back at pictures or pieces of past works and am mystified that I ever made that. It looks like someone else had to have done it…even when I know better. I am sure there is a psychological term for this experience or feeling, but I don't know what it is. However, I do know what it feels like. It feels like something I did in a previous life, and it was done in my life previously.

Hi Al. You are absolutely right. If someone asked me to reproduce some of my past work, I couldn't do it. In the first place, I never use plans so there is no record of what happened. I made some pieces that were so difficult, I will never make them again, but am thrilled that I accomplished a final product. I am thinking of my credenza. Lord have mercy, the joinery for the laminated sides made me think so hard my head was spinning :) I love that piece, because it reminds me of how determined I was to get it done. I know you have had those pieces too. Great to hear from you. Cheers!!

Cathy,

Spontaneous, chaotic, are all elements of art. Precision, planning, practice, patience, and pooped are the woodworker's essence to make it happen well!

Great Job!

Just saw this! Been awhile. LOL!
