Project Information

I guess it's about time I posted my table.
I now have a Video of the table You can view this full screen.

I deviated from the original design, because we needed more space to display things, so one more shelf never hurts. Besides we don't have very much room in our home.
I very seldom build anything with someone elses plan. I alway end up with modifications.
My choice of wood is Black Walnut, & Black Ash. I've built other things with this combination with nice results.

I almost forgot to mention that the Black Walnut was once a railroad tie.

I never had any exposure to Greene & Greene up to this point, so it was quite an eye opener for me.
I especially liked the cloud lift design, so I went all out for it. I even used it on the tabletop. I recently noticed a table in the Thorsen house had the design on a table's edge.

I also liked the exposed pegs, they seem to draw your eyes to them. I used the draw bore method in fastening the breadboards without any glue. That was fun, because it was something new for me.
I used Black Walnut for the pegs. I burnished the end facets with a fine sanding disk causing a faux finish to mimic Ebony.

Notice, the aprons have a downward cloud design in order to fit carvings on them, & I coved the edges on the legs.

The size of the top is 14 1/2" square, & the height is 28"

I finished it with 4 coats of Minwax satin wipe on poly.

You can see the carving work in progress on my Blog #12,
And also blog # 13

Great Dick. I think Popular Woodworking will have to devote a whole issue to include all of the tables that were entered.

They are all so unique, Just the thing that I wanted when I proposed this challenge.

Great job.

AH Dick, I hate to be the one to tell you, but it was only supposed to have one shelf on it. Maybe they'll let you enter anyway…. You know I'm bsing it is really gorgeous. Man, that is the winner of winners. How could I add 12 inches to my legs and another shelf in 3 days. Oh well I don't have any carvings. Best of luck, to the best. mike
