Grandsons First Toolbox

Dave, thank you! You've shown me a wonderful project for my Grandsons. They are 7, 5 and 2. The best part of this is that they will always have something that Grandpa made just for them. I have nothing from my Grandfathers.
Now I can make some very special project for them.

Dave, that is a mighty fine tool box. He will treasure it being from Grandpa. I wish I had a grandson!!!!!!!!

Wonderful gift for a Young Man to get a tool box from Grampa. That is some really beautiful grained scrap Walnut. Looks like it grew up on the mean streets. Win win here, both of you will take something away from this. Grampa of the week award stuff Dave.

Thanks Dave. That's about how it is now. I taught my son if you take things apart you better remember how to get them back together but teaching my grandson how to take things apart will be more interesting for him. LOL.

Thanks Bob. I've made quite a few things for the grandkids and hoping a few of them they will keep and have around when I'm gone. A toolbox of his own was a god idea. If he stays good on the toolbox maybe I'll make him a better one later on.

Thanks Steve. I have a lot of walnut from a tree struck down by lightning years ago. I probably had over 200bf of it. I still have quite a bit left. I only call these scraps cause I resawed them a third time.

How old is the grand-spawn? Did he get to help make it?

The only thing I ever got from any of my grandancestors (and, I haven't had any of those since I was about fifteen) was my love of music and the piano. Momma's Daddy was a great piano man who, in his youth, was one of those guys who played the piano in the silent picture houses. He could play anything by ear. The last time I saw him, shortly before his death, he could no linger play. Arthritis had ruined his hands. I eagerly asked him to play for me, and, the best he could do was to pull out some 8-track tapes. Ever since, I've lived in fear of losing the ability to play.

Now, I have about nine (or nineteen) toolboxes that have collected over the years. Only a couple are mine.

Great Project, it will encourage him to be interested in doing and mending things. Good for the mind and very satisfying for him to have his very own tool box to build on over the years.
You have created a wonderful memory for him, He will treasure the tool box and the memories.

Pretty fancy tool box, Dave. I'm sure your grandson will get years of use out of it. It's great getting him into woodworking at a young age. Great job!

Hi Mark. He's 6 1/2 tears old and didn't help me with the making. Actually he's been helping me with pouring epoxy resin over rocks for decorations. I guess I'm in the same boat about receiving things from grand parents except what you inherit in their passing. At least the music is something that you can keep memorable about him. It's a different world today.

Thanks Dick. I'll be adding tools as I go through things and give him what I have too many of. I think I started out that way myself.

Thanks Cliff. I also think since it's their own maybe they will take care of it better. I know I would abuse my dads tools and get yelled at for not putting them away as with many of us. LOL.We all have to start somewhere.

Thanks Jim. That's probably the most important things about tools, putting them away so you can have them for next use. Hey I'll be honest, on occasion I don't put everything back where it should be but I make sure it doesn't get lost.

Nice job Dave!!! Kinda wish I had a walnut tool box like that, it's a beauty. Never a bad time to start collecting a set of tools and now he has a nice place to store them. Way to go grandpa!
