Grandson's Desk

Project Information

So my grandson is going for the first time in school and of-course grandpa is set to the task to build his first office desk.
As always first I did my design and build it using 3 types of wood. Pine for the legs, spruce on the top back and shelve support, and melamine for the shelve top and the two drawers.
Varnished with matte poly.
Dimensions are: 100Wx60Dx72H cm (at desk top) or 88H cm at shelve top

nice job grandpa thats a well made desk that should take him through many years of school,maybe even handed down to his children some day.

Thank you my friend. It's quite sturdy but grandpa will always be happy or looking for an excuse to build him another when he grows up :) hahahaha

Nice work Steli. I like the look. I like the melamine giving it a more modern look.

Thanks buddy, don't know but i always like to mix different types of wood in my projects, I guess that's my style :)

I see hints of a Herman Miller Nelson desk.
Great design -

I am sure it will be used with pride.

Outstanding and elegant design! You will, sure, take a large part of his present and future education…at least when doing homework is about.

Nice build Stelios, looks like it has all the correct joinery, and with stout lumber, even if your Grandson is a brawler, that desk will survive.

Nice build Stelios, looks like it has all the correct joinery, and with stout lumber, even if your Grandson is a brawler, that desk will survive.

Nice desk. I have a grand cousin (first cousin twice removed?) who just turned six who I need a Christmas present for. This looks just the thing, and with the pine legs that can be replaced as he grows and a sturdy top (ash? oak?) that can be easily refinished and/or resurfaced, this may be just the type of thing I was looking for.

I was thinking a toy chest, but I think this could last him longer, perhaps on into college with a little tlc and upkeep.
