Project Information

I found an odd shaped piece of Amur cherry in my wood bin and proceeded to carve an odd shaped work boot. Compared to my other boots I did a bit more reveal work to give the boot an old wrinkled look. Then to complicate matters even further I decided to do a dye job on the structure and the battle between carver/designer and the subject waged on. I started with an ox blood leather dye which made the boot too 'hot' so I toned it done with some brown leather dye. Topped it up with a lacquer finish which needs some further toning done as shown by the pictures! I hope Grandpa would be proud!
The boot stands 6 inches high, 7 inches heel to toe and 4 1/2 - 5 inches wide. Size unknown!!!???
Enjoy!

Just absolutely unreal. You have an amazing talent. This boot is fantastic.

How much time do you have in a project like this?

Time for this boot can be broken down as follows, blank preparation 15 minutes, rough carving to shape, 3 to 4 hours, sanding, revealing and detailing, 15 to 20 hours, sanding and finishing 5 to 10 hours (depending on the details incorporated).Equipment used, power carvers.

If this boot was from a foot passing thur, I would love to hear the stories form what looks like a rejuvenated but tired hunched over old soul.
Another classic Roman piece of wonderful art, well done friend

Grandpa had small feet. <grin> I really like what you did with the staining…. esp. the variation of color around the eyelets. Very cool looking boot!

Awesome.
I'm wondering what shoe polish would look like on wood….....seriously.
I would have liked to see the blank before you started to see if I could have seen a similar form prior to carving or if you just have an incredible imagination.
Well done.
