Project Information

First of all, let me preface this posting by saying that this was not my creation. My wife and I were lucky enough to be the recipient of this cherry grandfather clock as a wedding present that was handcrafted by my father and finished by my mother. It's based upon an image of a Nathaniel Mulliken clock found in an old book. Dad meticulously drew up the plans (the engineer in him) and then set about making this.

My father passed away two years ago. I have most of his tools in my wood shop now and hope to be able to be half as talented as he was.

It's truly a possession that we will always treasure.

PS: My brother and his wife received a beautiful cherry pencil post bed for their wedding present.

Truly a fine clock a treasure to have from the hands of an outstanding woodworking talent, your father. What a outstanding gift and fine furniture to have you remember you father every time you look at it.

beautiful heirloom piece. Yes, quite a well made family treasure.

It immediately reminded me of a family clock I was helping to research. I got it down to a early 1800's clock from England… the resemblance to your clock face and cabinet caught my attention real quick.

Wow, it's a beautiful clock. I dream of making a grandfather clock one day when I have more time. The best part is it's an heirloom.

You are very lucky to have such a tangible memory of your father, especially since you are also a woodworker. It is a truly beautiful piece of work and a wonderful family heirloom.

Gorgeous! Be mindful of the woods next to that vent! I would redirect the air flow away from the clock casework. Fine furniture doesn't like sun, humidity and temperature swings! Many years of enjoyment follow.

Thank you for your kind words, everyone. Dad would have loved seeing all of the incredible work shown on LJs.

Charles - the vent is our first floor air return so there's no air blowing out on the clock. Thanks for the heads up!

I had to go back and take another look… I really like your clock over the similar antique clock that is in our family. The lines on your cabinet are beautifully done.

Thanks for sharing.
