Project Information

Jim Jakosh just posted a GPS holder project & this reminded my of one I did some time ago. Thanks Jim.
I don't like cluttering up the windscreen with stuff, so I used one of the cup holders in the console of the Rav4.
I also had a coin holder from a previous model that fitted loosely but not tight enough for a GPs.

I turned a tapered ring to make it all a tight fit.

The next thing was to turn a top piece and recess the flat top to take a smooth piece of plastic cut to size for the GPS holder to suck on to.

All done. The wood was teak finished with wipe on poly.

I've been using a cell phone for my GPS for about a year. And I've been using it with a suction cup to my front window. I've found that full screen on 100% of the time and plugged in and with the sun beating down on the case causes it to power off because of battery overheating.

I just bought a clip to hold it in the air vents, so now I get cold air blowing on it all the time. Don't know what will happen in the winter.

But, your choice looks like a great solution.

Nice job Tony.

Fantastic!!! I have been trying to figure out how to mount the screen for an after market back up camera on my Chevy SSR. There is not a lot of room to mount anything in this truck. This should work fine. Thanks.

Thanks Karson, I know the problem you are talking about.
Thanks Wapy, You are so right on that point Bambi, Thanks Jim, Ampeater.
No worry with the cup holder Jim of Michigan, it still has storage in the coin holder & I have water in the door storage. Not one for drinking coffee on the move.

Good one Tony. Looks very convenient. I don't use it much but that would be the way to go. Nice job.
