Just another cutting board to add to this site, because there aren't enough on here yet. /s
Another gift for my bosses for whom I made the 'washrooms' sign last year. First try at a cutting board. It's birch and padauk, and I wanted the finished dimensions to equal the golden ratio. It's 11 1/8" x 18". Took a bit of number crunching to get a relatively uniform padauk border without the center birch blocks being too big or too small for my liking.
Originally planned to use walnut for the border but when I measured the portion of the board I planned to use I thought I might have enough scrap padauk sitting around that could be used instead. I had 3 chunks of padauk waste from cutting out the two rear legs of the next Hal Taylor rocker I'm making, and when I calculated how much I'd have left after planing and ripping it I decided to give it a go. In the end I had EXACTLY the amount needed with not a sliver to spare.
They were blown away when they saw the board and said it's too nice to use as a cutting board. facepalm
Although, they do enjoy charcuterie and will certainly use it for serving meats and cheeses. If I had known they wouldn't actually use the board for cutting I would have just made a much easier edge or face grain board! Oh well.
Thanks for looking.
