Project Information

I made this Gavel and Sounding Block for friend. I tried something different on the sounding block, I turned it so the end grain would show. I think it adds a little something to it. I counted the rings and there were 26 up to where I turned it down. I believe this is from a branch off a big walnut tree. The handle is 8.5" long and the gavel head is 3" x 1.5". The sounding block is 3.5" in diameter. I have two coats of tung oil applied to it.

Great work. I make a few of these and I also usually turn the end grain up for the sounding block.

Don,

Stellar job on the gavel and block….You would make any judge proud to own that setup…If I was a judge, I'd be proud to own it…..

Don, the verdict is in. I judge that to be a really nice gavel, fit for the supreme court.

Thanks guys. I appreciate the compliments. Dennis, This is the first time I tried the end grain up and I like it more.
