Project Information

This 'Garden Pump' is made from scrap cedar I had. It's now at least 10 years old. I thought I'd add it in case somebody is looking for a fairly easy project for a gift or to sell. Flecto urethane paint has faded slightly from real bright red-but is original.
To facilitate turning on the lathe and function, I glued it up so that there was a central hole down the center over the whole length. On final painting I initially plugged one end and poured paint in the other, plugged other end and then moved the whole thing to make sure entire inside was painted. It has a 1×1 aluminum tube rammed into the bottom that goes into the ground for support. Base of pump should be just above ground so it stays dry.
If I were to do it again I'd carve a fancier / better spout.
The picture of the real (blue) pump was the inspiration for this project.
The shaft on mine is 1/2" stainless steel.
