Project Information

I've been wanting to make a garden lighthouse for a couple years now. By chance I was looking through a tool catalog that I got from of all places, my wood turning club meeting and found a nice plan for a lighthouse
I bought the plans about a year ago and finally got around to building it.
It is 4' tall with a 18 1/2" base and made out of marine grad ply with Oak trim and a pine base. I used biscuit construction and generous amounts of exterior glue. The finish is milk paint with multiple coats of exterior satin poly. I used glass to protect the solar beacon light which can be set to static or rotate. I turned the finial myself but bought the 6 pegs used as columns for the railing.
The solar panel (not pictured) is triangle shaped and fits atop one of the roof panels.
It was a fun project and will be fun to see in the garden this spring. For now it is in our patio until I make a little clearing for it in the garden.
Thanks for looking…

Thanks for the nice comments.
Ken: Being a West Coast native I love light houses too. Pigeon Point is my favorite one here. Every new year I have to buy a calendar with light houses… go figure.
The milk paint is from Woodcraft. Slate blue with the Oyster white trim. It gives it an authentic look. Really neat stuff. I used varithane waterbased exterior satin poly over it.

I like it,
I have needed something to cover up my water well head and electrical boxes in the yard. I think I will enlarge your design and then make it more of a wind mill but include the light feature. It is in my favorites to refer back to.

Such attention to detail on an outdoor project, such magnificence, the squirrels will be re-enacting the opening scenes from 2001. A great build, thanks for posting.

Great looking lighthouse! It's going to look great in your backyard!

Question, though: Does the solar panel keep the light lit all night, or just for a couple of hours?

Mean_Dean: So far it has stayed on all night… It has three AA rechargeable batteries. It better stay on all night for the price.

Thanks for looking and the nice comments everyone!

Where did you get you r plans from? I have been tasked with repairing one that looks exactly like yours. It would be helpful to have the dimensions for each of the parts. Great job btw

I found them on Harttools website. But don't see them there now. I would give google a try… they must be out there somewhere.
