Project Information
We have a small deck between our shed and house and my wife wanted a nice gate between the lattice work railing. I came up with this little gate. The gate measures 54" H X 36" W X 1-1/2" D
I used all pressure treated wood on this project. I used mortise and tendon joinery and the glued i used was Gorilla Glue. Messy sticky stuff but it works great!
I had some old iron balusters hanging around the shop so I cut them to length and welded them onto a steel frame I made to fit the opening. (notice the sock on the end of my power saw? It keeps the metal filing from getting into the motor and killing it.
I also drilled 3 weeping holes through the bottom stile so any water that got in behind the molding would be able to weep out to the bottom of the door. inserted some 1/2" clear tubing in the holes also.
I used Dog eared fence boards for the bottom panel.
I tried soaking the molding so I could bend it but they were way to thick and heavy to bend so I cut them to the shape I needed on the band saw and then finished them up on the router using three different bits on the router to get the shape I wanted.
She was Happy!
Thanks for looking in on my project.

Update, 6/12/2022
.
It's been almost 10 year since I built this gate and I found some rot so I did some damage control on it. Replace the center cross bar just below the Iron grate in the window and some rot on the top cross member. I also refurbished the latch.
