Hi Dave...Now that I am getting used to the new site. I will try and put more detail into my descriptions, the Finish I used on the Plywood Bowl is Cabot"s BENCHTOP Clear. It is a highly durable Food Safe Varnish that enhances the natural timber grain. (water based)
I applied around 5 coats with a soft brush and rubbing gently between the first 4 coats with 0000 Steele Wool. You could also put on a good wax and buff it with a soft cloth. I didn't apply any wax as this was very much an experiment to see what a plywood fruit bowl would be like and also if there would be any problems in turning it.
Do we still have Private Messaging on this site? It was very handy to pass on some information to other Lumberjocks.
Hi Cliff, I have found that wax free shellac is a real good sealer to prevent a lot of penetration of the top coat. Here it is sold under the name Seal Coat. The regular shellac is not recommended under poly.
