Project Information
All of my life I have been fascinated by anything miniature. My love for miniatures and woodworking finally came together now that I have a break from school. This is my first 1/12 scale piece. The top is spalted maple, and the base it walnut. The splines in the miters are also maple. All the surfaces are hand planed to final finish. The finish is wipe on polly, 3 thin coats.
To make this and future mini projects possible I made 3 miniature chisels first. Made from old files I had. I trued them on the stone, ground the bevel, tempered the tips, and honed them to a mirror finish. The handles are turned from some Osage Orange scraps. These babies work like a charm. I plane to start doing more scaled hand-cut joinery in the future pieces. Mortise chisel, dovetail chisel, and regular flat bench chisel.
The last picture is a tiny butterfly joint in a table top. Its a work in progress, I just wanted to put the chisels to the test.
Thanks for looking
