Project Information

I wanted to make a chisel rack for my new to me Lee Valley chisels and came up
with this French cleat, made out of walnut with sliding dovetail Birds Eye maple.
Hopefully the next dovetails will be better and more presentable. Oops.
A magnet holds them in place with Dominos for the handle.
The outline of the chisel was routered free hand and a Stanley 71 hand plane
and chisel did the rest for fun.
Any and all comments are appreciated.
Thanks for looking.

I like the rack quite a bit. The slots for each chisel are great, and the magnet idea is clever. How do these chisels compare to the two cherries in the first two pictures?

@bhog - I went a little crazy with the finish. I used a wood conditioner
from Benjamin Moore and let it set overnight. Then used a mixture of Minwax
English Chestnut 233 and Jel'd Stain Salem Maple.
I practiced on some scrap until I got the result that complimented the
walnut. That was applied and let it set overnight.
Minwax Polycrylic was the top coat.

@Bobasaurus - I really can't tell the difference between the two. I abused the 26mm
Two Cherries chisel and was stunned that the edge retained it's sharpness after wailing on 4
morticies in a douglas fir 4×6 block. When it seemed to not slick as well I'd strop it and was back
wailing on it. LOL, same with the Lee Valley chisels. I like both sets.

Thanks to all, I appreciate your comments.

A gr8 use of cutoffs. Nice design. I like how the magnet holds each one in place.
