Project Information
Originally, I'd planned on making a veneered box after reading, "A Box That Earns Its Stripes" Fine Woodworking #207. After seeing how incredibly complex it would be, I lost steam and aborted the mission! I ended up making 16 4" x 6" frames with the veneered strips that I'd cut. I've enjoyed giving them away and don't regret my decision at all.
The woods used are Mahogany, Wenge, Yellowheart, Bloodwood and Holly, in a symmetrical pattern. The striped veneer is glued to a 3/4" Baltic birch substrate with Mahogany veneer on the back. They are finished with tung oil and a coat of wax.
