Project Information

Standing about 17" tall, box is 36 by 17", more or less. Frame and Raised panel construction…Panels sit in grooves.

Corner posts are a 2 piece glue up….with a Tongue & Groove joint…made to look the same 3" width in either direction. Lid is a single glued up, raised panel, sitting in a frame's grooves….Corners of the lid have half blind dovetails

3 "cup" handles…one on each end, and one for the lid

Stain is Witch's Brew..followed by 2 coats of Amber Shellac, then one coat of Clear Gloss Poly. There are plastic, nail on pads for the feet. Bottom is a 1/4" Luann plywood panel…sitting on 1×1 Maple cleats..

About 5 weeks to complete…there is a Blog on the build…."A Project for June"?

Sweet looking chest Bandit, and the finish makes it look antique, great color and wonderful grain patterns. And mostly done by hand tools. Well done, and a great blog series.

Insightful in the way you transform the wood into this while going "old school" with the construction. Certainly an appreciation for what a wide collection of plane styles can do!

Moved it into it's new home…


Filled it up..


Did not add a finish to the inside….other than the underside of the lid…


Close the lid, and latched…..The Hobbit Tool Chest.
