Ford "C" Cab Truck

Well here's a turn up for the books!
Though a lady in my wife "Smooth Movers Class" [gentle gymnastics for over 50's] I was introduced to her husbands boss who owns a local Picture Framing business and Craft Shop which has attached a Repair Shop styled upon the British TV Show.
I was asked to drop in with some of the photos of the toys I make.

We long story short, the owner was very excited to see a toymaker in his shop and asked me to being some toys to the shop as he didn't have anything like what I did, stating there was a huge market for hand made wooden toys.

So a quick 25 hours over a week or so and hey presto, a Ford "C" Cab Truck to take and show him.

The truck is 20" [510mm] long; 8.5" [225mm] wide; 8" [200mm] high.

Their is a mixture of reclaimed and recycled timbers; Merbau, Pacific Maple, Tallow Wood, Spotted Gum, Red Gum and Oregon. The wheels are shop bought ask are the furniture button taillights and fuel caps. I've used my homemade Wipe-On_Poly, 3 coats to finish it and added a "Ford Logo" on the back of the tray.

The truck was taken by the owner on the spot when I returned to the shop to show him what I like to make.
He claimed it for his own and has displayed it in the shop as a conversation piece with the view to gain commission work for me; wow!

I also gave him a few of the smaller vehicles for his shop to sell.

He wants to support local craftsman and introduce locals & visitors to hand made wooden toys.

Great looking truck Crowie, no wonder the boss claimed it. A nice break finding a place to sell your craft. Well done.

Thank you Bob, but it's something that's extremely hard to deal with.

My normal is to enjoy making the toy and then giving it.

When I asked and discussed my concerns with the owner about all these types of things, he no pressure if you want 3-4 weeks to make a truck I'll tell the potential customer 4-6 weeks.

I'm still struggling with the idea that people would pay and wait for a toy truck I make.

Nice details on the truck, and it is even better that you have a place to show and sell if you like.

Yes sometimes it is best to see the smiles of the receiver of the gifted project. Great job.

This is really a nice one Peter. Worth a plan. If people pay for your made trucks than it is their choice, so stop struggling with that.

That's a good looking truck, Peter! It's nice to have someone appreciate your work!

As for selling them, I hope it goes well. I've thought about that myself, and I'm not sure whether I would want to make things on commission, or maybe only for consignment, or maybe not for sale at all. When someone pays you, there's always the chance that it will turn something fun into work. Best of luck dealing with the temptation!

Nice job!

Pricing is always tricky. Seems like you can always lower a price, but it's harder to raise them…

How did you make the Ford logo - CNC?

Bruce, the veins on the front mudguards/fenders are epoxy resin to stabilise the donuts I cut for them; just two (2) holesaws using the same pilot hole. But yes it adds character to the build. The headlight supports are part of the offcuts from the outer holesaw.
