Project Information

This box is another joint effort between my wife and me. Several weeks ago we had a lady we had made a box for call and ask if we could do a flounder on a keepsake box as a surprise birthday present for her husband. She had a specific picture of a flounder that she wanted. Well, we said yes and here is the result. The box is Walnut, with the inset on the lid done in Magnolia. the body of the fish is Lacewood and the fins are Zebrawood. Everything is natural wood colors, with the exception of the eyes, which are beads from Michaels. The dimensions are 12"L x 7"W x 6"H. Thanks for looking and commenting.

The flounder is done in intarsia. The body is Lacewood and the fins are Zebrawood.

Body is Walnut and inset on lid and lifting handle are Magnolia.

Removable tray is also Magnolia and the bottom of the tray and the box is finished with cushioned Blue felt.

Bob, I like this box. The intarsia flounder is great. It looks like you and I build boxes in a similar manner. You might consider corner splines for your tray. It would strengthen the joinery. I like your rounded corners and soft lines. Your wood choices are great for showing off the intarsia and corner splines. Wonderful team effort. Keep boxing and keep posting.

The details on the fish are wonderful.Generally, i think it would be a great gift for a fisherman, where to keep the most greatest memories.

Boxguy, Thanks for the view and critique. Yes, we do make many boxes in the same style. I have taken advantage of your instructions and am most grateful. I also do other boxes in a completely different style. It just depends on the mood of the day.
