Project Information

I have started cleaning off my bench and using up the wood and there was a piece of female box elder that told me it wanted to be a clothes rack. I used a solid brass cast fish hook for the main hook and added 4 other pegs. I tried to follow the curve of the red grain and made then ends curved like the dorsal fin. I had to insert the back where there was a real punky spot that showed on the bottom.

It is 3/4" x 4" x 13 1/2" overall and finished with clear gloss lacquer.

Cheers, Jim

I like it Jim. You just gave me an idea for some of the box elder I sliced up. I have the same brass hook, only a jumping bass. Will be great for out at the lake. You gotta love that box elder.

Hi Dave. I'll be waiting to see your creation!! Ain't woodworking great?
Hi Buster. I was searching for the red box elder at all the tree services a few years ago and got to talking to this old tree expert from the HA Irish company and he is the one that told me only the female box elder gets any red in the wood.

The center peak looks just like the fish splashed out of the wood 'water'! Thanks for sharing.
