Project Information

My wife was getting a little sick of the olive drab harris storage locker that i had been using as a coffee table since my days in the barracks, so i promised her I would make her a new table. This is the first piece of furniture Ive made so i am quite open to some criticism here. I do not have a jointer and all of this lumber was rough cut so i had a bear of a time getting joint that are slightly smaller than the panama canal,,, though that difference is rather marginal. The finish is Cabot Spar Urethane as my dog loves to knock over glass with his tail so i figured i better go with something tough. i had many different ideas for how to do drawers and all kinds of stuff but in the end i got lazy and just decided to do the easiest thing possible. I still need to do two more coats of varnish and finish the inside of the case. Top is made with eastern red cedar, cherry and walnut, legs are cherry and walnut. thanks for looking.

Ps the varnish is still wet, which is why the pictures look all splotchy and why there are no pictures with the top down.

That's a cool design and I like the storage under the top. She's got to like that better than the O.D. footlocker!

My fellow Marine That is just the beginning your work is great for a new woodworker especially one that is tool challenged. I love the design and the execution. Tighter joints will come with time and better tools. Now my best piece of advise is to get that Jointer the best one you can afford and buy some more wood and start your next project your on a roll My Brother. OOOO RAH

Great first furniture piece. The storage is good idea, good hiding place. The maze layout is tough even with a shop full of tools, joints in every directionq.
