Project Information

My grill is right outside the door the my shop, so I can get 4 to 12 minutes of un-interrupted shop time depending on what I'm cooking and how long it needs to hang out before being turned over. This box was done almost completely while cooking and its made up of some glued up scrap of Maple and Canary Wood (left over from the last project - the cutting board).

I am a super novice on the lathe, but I do find it relaxing and a lot of fun. The box is about 3 3/4" inches tall and 3" in diameter. The inside of the box is only 1 3/8" deep. I was having some trouble hollowing it out so I stopped shallow so as not ruin what I had.

What a great way to use your "grilling time" to turn a box. Excellent, Kerry!

Well, frankly I'm not all that hot with the lathe. All I've ever done with it is turn a few spindles and I sure as hell can't cook and whenever I try to do more than one thing at a time it always turns out lousy. I probably would have burned down the shop. All in all I would say that you did a helluva job on that box. Now for the important question - soooo how did the food turn out? :-|
