Project Information

Fireplace mantel I just finished for a client. I'm sorry for posting a painted project but I think this tuned out ok. I did make all of the fluted trim. Good router practice.

Any advice for future mantel builds? I would love to here your critiques. Thanks

No need to apologize for paint! Paint on wood can be a wonderful thing. This is a nice mantel and I bet the people you built it for are very pleased. I know I would be.

I don't know what kind of advice for future mantel builds you are looking for but what about one with rustic/reclaimed/pallet wood? Also clear, tight grained fir would look nice for a mantel. I like cove mouldings too! Something of a classic American mantel look. At least that is how I would describe it.

Beautifully made, It is finished, and it is wood, so yeah, it qualifies!

I think we need to consult you for ideas, that is one high class mantel.

Looks good.

That's a cool picture of the mantle unfinished in your shop. nice router stand too.

Just finished one of these myself. waiting for the painter to finish it and the carpet installed.

The only other thing to possibly add, as far as ideas go, would be 7" of granite or tile surround then build the mantle slightly bigger, less mass on the horizontal. Maybe add 3 1/4" cove crown under the top and taller plinths. route the botton edge but leave the top edge square and just ease it.======================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================================= ahhhhh!
WTH! damn puppy! Here, go fetch!

gotta play with little butt. son of a gun pushes my hand off the mouse! Ha!

Great looking mantle! Beautiful and clean work on it. Like the molding and the fluted trims. A great addition to the fireplace.
