Project Information

I've been working on my new bench on the weekends for a month or so. It's now finally done. It has two old Emmert vises on one end (one is flush mounted and the other is not) and a Veritas Twin Vise on the other end. I used 6 old Craftsman table saw extensions to square up and stiffen the base. A couple more coats of tung oil and I'll be putting it to use!

The dimensions of the bench are really a function of the size of the tablesaw extensions that were used in the base (12" x 27"). The legs are 6" square of oak; top is 3" of beech, and the ends are of Brazilian cherry. The height of the bench is somewhat adjustable. Right now it is at 35" but it can be changed by about +/0 1.5".

I added a rough plan into the photo mix. Of course th actual bench ended up a little differently!

AWESOME bench! Must weigh a "few" pounds. May you spend countless hours, days and years at the bench, making whatever your heart desires. Enjoy - you deserve it after all that work. Thanks for sharing. Play / be safe.

That's a work of art. I'd be petrified to use it for fear that I might damage it some how. The cast iron extensions look really cool and add great stability, great idea.

Love the steel or cast iron in the sides ,that will add the needed weight.

You have two Emmerts? Good grief, this is one nice workbench. You really spared nothing in the construction of this monster.

Welcome, that is a very nice bench. I have never seen extension tables used that way before. Is that your original idea? What type of wood did you use? I gather that in addition to the tool tray being coverable it is also removeable?

May you have many years to enjoy your fine bench.

I look forward to your contributions to LumberJocks.
