Project Information

This is the knife I made my dad for father's day. I got the blade from WC. I also made the sheath. It was my first time working with leather, so didn't turn out quite as well as I wanted, but it serves it's purpose. The handle is made from sapele.

I guess I have to say it since no one else did "sharp" project … !

I love the appearance of the metal next to the wood. Did you form the wood to the metal or metal to the wood?

Thanks guys:) I formed the wood to the metal, but I had to take a small amount of metal off in some spots too. I mostly used my belt sander. This would have been a really easy project with a osc. sander. I actually stuck a sander in my router table(it's really for the drill press) but for some reason it left the metal just a little proud so I had to go back over it.

It looks good and the handle looks comfortable to hold. I'm sure your father likes it. Great job!

Thanks:) It is comfortable to hold. The wood is a little thicker than it was supposed to be d/t the rivets being too short, but I like the thickness for grip comfort…so I just made the countersink extra deep on both knives.

That is a beautiful job on that knife!! I think the thick grips will fit good for a firm grip. I had to make a sheath once and i used kind of thick hard leather and what I did was to make a form of the knife out of wood. Then I we the leather real good so it was pliable and clamped pieces of wood on the leather and around the wood form I made and when it dried it fit it pretty good. then I drilled holes for the thread and sewed it all around.Your sheath looks better than mine!!

cheers,Jim
