Project Information
This is a extra large handled cane made from Redheart and Black Walnut. Both woods are somewhat lightweight compared to some of the other exotic woods I use, so I kept the thick diameter in the handle and shaft for both comfort and stability. The handle is approximately 7" long x 3" tall x 1.5" thick. This cane was made to use backwards, as the shaft is closer to your body and your palm rests on the handle just above the shaft, so your weight is over the shaft, not over the extended handle area. This is a very comfortable support and more secure than if held in the opposite (traditional) position. The short end knob gives some support to your wrist/arm especially when lifting yourself from a seated position or leaning onto the cane with your weight. There is a flat area on the side of the handle for your right thumb to rest and allow better leverage than when wrapping it around.
It may look a little awkward but it works quite nicely. Current length of cane is 38.5", cut to suit owner.
