Project Information

Red Gum Eucalyptus Hollow Form.

5" diam X 9 1/4" tall. Turned to 3/8 wall.

Finished with Tung oil / Varnish.

Had a lot of fun with this one. This is the first tall hollow form I have had a chance to turn. I recently got a Capture arm hollowing system (Lyle Jamieson System), It works fantastic! Allowed me to reach over 8" deep into this vessel and no torque on my hands or arm trying to steady the tool. Have used it on a few bowls but this was the first try at reaching deep into a piece.

Some people call it cheating to use a capture arm system. I call it smart! There is NO way I could have turned this without it.

I would also like to thank the LJ who gave me this piece of wood. Thank You! ( he has asked not to be named)
I will send a more personal thanks in a PM.

Please leave all comments and suggestions. Thank You for looking. Sorry about the poor pics.

Nice job Scrappy. Looks like a big frown on the face in second pic. I would like to try the hollow forms but will be a while before I can afford a hollowing sys unless I build it.

BE-U-TI- MUSS!
Love the Basket-weave of the wood and the special way you brought it out. Having worked with RGE, I know how 'Squirley' it can be. You have tamed the beast and made it fantastic.

Nice work Scrappy. I was very impressed with LJ's demonstration we hosted a few years back and I agree, he's very supportive. I have a Jet Lathe that he signed while he was in Phoenix in 2011.

Hope to see this project and instructions on how you did it at AAFW this week.

Thanks for all the great comments everyone.

peteg I also love the look of wood with "character". Also it makes the turning a LOT more chalenging.

Thanks Again Everyone.
