Project Information

Epoxy and Mahogany bottle opener plaques. The orange one was using some scraps off another board I had laying around. The edges are routed with a ogee bit and after sanding, four holes were drilled in the back to accommodate the 1/4" rare earth magnets which are epoxied in. I did find I needed to take a knife and make a small scoring along the side of each hole to let air out otherwise the magnets wouldn't push down all the way. I clamped a board covered in packing tape over the set while they dried to the magnets wouldn't try and pull to each other. Getting 2 of the magnets that stuck to each other apart was not easy and required some creative thinking to get them separated after the spacers between them got shifted out of place while trying to separate the magnets for insertion into the holes.

The bottle opener itself I bought from Starr-X. A couple of pilot holes and the screws went in easily with a screwdriver. The pilot holes in the epoxy needed to be drilled a bit deeper than in the wood otherwise the screw wouldn't go in all the way.
