Project Information

You know them, you love them… One more Wood Whisperer cutting board. This is going to a friend of mine who is a great cook and took up cooking for my family since my wife went on bed-rest due to pregnancy complications. While picking up a dinner one night, I saw that she was using a old piece of plexiglass for a cutting board, and I immidiately knew what I was going to give her for her birthday.

Woods : Hard Maple & Purpleheart
Finish : General Finishes Salad Bowl Finish
Size : 9 3/4" x 11 1/4" x 1 1/4"

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for the comments guys. I know its not the most stunning project ever, but they sure are a lot of fun. Wife is still on bedrest, and I am becoming Chef Derrek. Not a big deal, as both Mom and baby are doing well, but we are taking no chances.

I did have a problem with the board. When routing the finger "ledge" in the ends, my little MDF shop jig wigggled itself a little loose, and one of the finger "ledge" has a slight "wobble" to it. O well. I guess that is what makes it hand-made…

Thanks again.

Derrek - Tell everyone that the wobble is a custom feature.

End grain cutting boards are a dream for slicing and dicing. Word of advice - anyone who works on anything else usually does not know the care needed (take it from me!!!). If you can wrap some mineral oil along with the gift with instructions, you will add 250% or more to the gift.

mtkate,

Funny you should mention… I knew that the lady I was giving it to didn't really know how to take care of it, so I did just that. I typed up an "Instructions for Care" paragraph, and included the mineral oil. I figure this way, my work will last longer and people might think it was a little higer quality than it actually is!! ;)

Thanks.
