Project Information
I built a box for carrying egg cartons for a couple friends with 16 chickens, using oak I got from their property. The structure is based on this tool box http://lumberjocks.com/projects/154370, but with dovetails. I put dovetails on everything. They refer to the flock as veloci-chickens so I put a Jurassic Park themed logo on each door. One of the doors holds a ledger that I printed.
I left most of spalted sapwood on for visual contrast. The sapwood was more brittle than I expected, I think I would trim it off next time. The body is roughly 3/4" thick and the sides are 1/2" thick. The body came out heavier than I wanted so I routed some material from the bottom and ends.
build videos:
part 1 - the body
part 2 - weight relief
part 3 - the sides
part 4 - final assembly
