Project Information

So this is my first jewelry box. I made it for a friend for Christmas. Pretty simple design. It is made of Gaboon Ebony and Purple Heart; black flocking through out. It is finished with Renaissance Wax. The scroll work was designed by me but I did cheat in cutting it out. I scanned it into my computer, changed the format and had a shop here cut it out on their lazer engraver. The scroll work piece itself is sandwiched between 2 pieces of glass so that I dont have to worry about dust collecting in the piece. It took me about 2 months of working on it here and there when I had time off from working on other projects in the shop. I actually built the lid first as a stand alone piece and then decided that while I like it, it needed something else to go with it. It just wasnt complete yet. So I designed and built the box to go with it. The handle for removing the tray is made from a scrap piece of ebony I rounded out on my lathe.

As always all comments, suggestions, and critiques are welcomed.

No shame in cheating. Even just designing something that intricate is impressive. Well done.

Where modern meets traditional… I like it…the use of a laser is the modern and the splines on the box traditional…very cool… and to used two sheets of glass to keep out the dust… outstanding…
