Project Information

Finally finished this little table/plant stand. The design was inspired by three of my favorite Arts and Craft designers: Harvey Ellis, Charles Limbert and Charles Rennie Mackintosh. If you're interested, there's more information in the progress posts on my blog.

The half-lapped stringers are mortised into the legs - can't tell you how tricky it was keeping the legs level.

It's finished with a Jeff Jewitt recipe that is a pretty close mimic of Stickley Fayetteville. I've used it several times, and have always been happy with the results.

The table stands 18 inches tall; the top is 13 inches square.

All wood is reclaimed from two beat up old school desks we bought at a yard sale, resulting in a mix of quartersawn, riff cut and flat sawn oak. In hindsight, I wish I was a little bit more picky about the wood, but given this little guy's role as a background piece, it's probably fine as a salvage project.

Interesting take. Like the simplicity, yet I know it was anything simple making it. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for the nice comments, guys. James, that's my brand. Several years ago, my wife got me a branding iron for my furniture, and I got to design the mark. It's inspired by the mark of the Roycrofters. The four horizontal lines at the top represent our family, and the lines and semicircles inside the bottom circle are my initials.

It came from a place called Branding Irons Unlimited. www.brandingirons.com Aside from the head, I had to buy a 250 watt iron and temperature control.

I bet you could fit a nice little plant in that niche in the centre under the table. This would make a really nice decorative stand for the entrance way!
