This hollow form started out as a bland looking piece of silver maple. I applied green alcohol based dye followed by blue alcohol based dye and then applied several coats of high gloss clear poly, wet sanding between coats.
I had intended to also apply yellow dye to the piece, but some visitors to my workshop studio liked the piece the way it was and who was I to argue with cash money.
