Project Information
I built this Dutch Tool Chest to hold my turning tools. I wanted a chest where each turning chisel was easily accessible during use and for storage and somewhere I could keep all of my turning equipment in one place.
The chest has a height adjustable rack built into the back of the chest to accommodate the different lengths of turning chisels. Wood pegs fit in the slots at different heights to allow for the different length tools (see Pic).
The chest is made from pine with a dovetailed carcass and follows the basic design by Chris Schwarz in Popular Woodworking. It is sized to sit snug under my lathe. Instead of a tongue and groove back, I made mine as a frame and panel. The top is pine with breadboard ends.
Hardware is from Blackbear forge and includes hand made handles, hinges and hasp. Nails hold on the front and back (plus glue). The castors are reconditioned vintage items from ebay. The chest is painted in grey milk paint with a coat of varnish over the top.
All in all a good, fun project. The rack for the turning tools was a challenge but worked out quite well in the end. I look forward to filling the base with my turning blanks and tools.
Thanks for looking.
