Project Information

This was a challenge I did this a few years back for some folks that were building a new home. I first hunted out the a good cedar root mass that would work, then I hollowed out the back side to lighten it up. I had to get this thing 20 feet in the air to hang it and the root was about 8 foot across. As the house was being built they braced the framing to support the piece, I was glad too have it up in place it looks great in person my pictures of the process are not that good but it gives you the idea.

Thanks LJ's

Very impressive piece! Just finding the right stock is a major achievement! How much does it weigh? Can you tell us the story on finding it?

I found the piece out on the bay where I live, I had one piece that I was going to use but it didn't quite feel like the right one and I planed on using it in a head board. This one I had spotted out a wile back and was waiting for the right project to come along to put into play. Getting it back home was a trick me and another guy managed to pull it off.

You've gotta be kidding me. I would have never imagined a whole root system becoming a chandelier!

When I first looked, my thought was, a many eyed monster from the Mariana Trench had surfaced, then
I saw Jeffro and realized you had made one more piece of living wood sculpture. At eight feet across, it
would need a large ceiling to make it fit, and this one is a great home for it. Thank you once again for
sharing.
