Project Information

This is one of my latest new candle trays that I designed. It created from 1/2" maple on the scroll saw. The center of the tray is bevel cut so that the frame is slightly raised from the table, giving the tray a bit more depth and interest.

For this design, I created eight dragonfly figures that are attached to the tray with dowels. this gives the appearance of them flying around the tray.

I show this tray in two versions - one that is stained with acrylic paints and staining and antiquing medium by DecoArt and the other with a mineral oil finish followed by spray lacquer.

I really enjoy designing these trays and plan to do many more. Thanks for looking. :)

Sheila I think I like the painted one best
It really enhances the wood.

Thank you Jamie. As I said, I continue to show both versions because people don't realize that they like the painted versions sometimes, but when they see them, they prefer them. I actually like both but prefer the colored one myself. :)

Have a great Sunday, Sheila

Sheila, A really nice design. I like how each one is in a different position in flight.

Beautiful specially the one painted. I can see the future on your design… If you are using same pegs for example the butterfly, sunflower, and herbs… Then, you can interchangably arrange those in a tray. A very good improvement on the candle tray.
Keep it going.

Very nicely done-both design and execution. I like the color version best-just more visual interest.

A very beautiful, colourful and lively design, Sheila. The colours bring life and vibrancy (is that a word, it is now).

Sheila, the candleholder turned out very nice. You're right seeing both versions makes you think outside of your own box and i'm about half and half on liking the colored or natural version.

Thank you all again so much! Yes - the colors are pretty, but I also like the natural ones too. I am glad that I do them both ways so I don't have to decide. :)

I appreciate your nice comments.
