Showcase cover image for Dragon Pen Holder

Project Information

This was my first finished scroll saw project. The pattern was from Steve Good's site. It was originally meant to have a clock insert but I couldn't find any that small locally on short notice so I made the yin yang. The dragons and top 3/4 of the base are red oak. The bottom 1/4 of the base and the yin yang are poplar. The bottom of the pen hole is covered in black leather and peel-n-stick felt was used on the bottom. I cut the yin yang in 2 pieces and stained the dark half with ebony stain. The light dot on the dark half was actually the tip of a chopstick. I finished it with 4 coats of spray lacquer.

Cool! I love dragons (primarily because nobody can ever say "that's not how they really look" but also because they were my high school mascot.)

Great job, thanks for sharing.

As an avid "scroller"; I do know that is a lot more work than what many think it is.

GREAT JOB!
