Project Information

My wife thought that doll beds would make great gifts for my Grand daughter and my Great grand daughter both who live in South Africa so I made them and assembled them when I arrived in Cape Town. as you can see happy faces all round.
Woods are cherry frame, maple slats, base 6mm ply, and mystery dowling.
I used my slot mortiser to do the loose mortise and tenon joinery.

Fantastic job. You obviously put a lot of love into those beds and they're sure to last for ages.

I think making doll beds is what got me into woodworking in the 1970's. My daughters always had something like these they wanted me to build for them to play with. A few years ago I built a "turtle shaped and hand painted" table and bench for the Granddaughters…and I did the same thing, took it on the airplane with me in pieces and assembled at their house. Five years later they still use it.

These are really beautiful work. Getting the dowels straight and all mortise and tenon joints to line up is not an accident. I like this type of project that makes the kids smile. Kudos to you.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks guys for the kind comments, and Yes hotncold, you are so right about the alignment challenge, having the right tools makes an amateur like me look good though
