Project Information

When my daughter moved into her first home she needed a new dining room table and chairs. I purchased chairs on the internet, but I decided to make a tavern table with a butternut top.

This was a simple glue up project with bread board ends on the table top. I decided to use mahogany dowels to peg the bread board ends and I got carried away and also pegged all of the mortise and tenon joints with square pegs in round holes, even though you cannot see them as well in the black antique finish I applied to the base. The top is stained with Minwax natural stain, and the table is finished with a brushed on spar varnish.

Nickford,

This is a nice looking table. The pegs and breadboard edging add nice details of visual interest to the table.

Thanks for the post.
