Project Information

As soon as I purchased this black bamboo didgeridoo (Aboriginal Woodwind Instrument) and played it for an hour it CRACKED almost the entire length of the bamboo. So after an epoxy repair that looked really bad I decided to veneer the entire thing. I had no plan I just started cutting and glueing. I did some wood burning and 2 sterling silver inlays, one is a walking liberty Half dollar I hammered into an emblem and the other is a name plate I fabricated.

I glazed the whole thing with an epoxy resin. It's not gonna crack ever again unless I drop it from a great height lol.

I wish the smoked Eucalyptus showed up better in these photos. It was quilted and came out looking really cool.
If you can't already tell, this is my first veneer job and picking a knobity, crooked piece of bamboo for my first victim was a chore. I'm ok with the appearance but as a side-note it dramatically improved the "timber" of the instrument. Much richer and deeper drones now.

I'm starting to love veneers and all you can do with them. Whaddaya think?

Cheers!

Amazing! Love the colors and the random patterns. Fun to look at! Probably fun to play as well. I have never played one but I like the sound they can make.
