Thanks for the comment and question .
I lightly sand the belt surface that is to be glued and wipe off the black dust caused by the sanding and further clean the surface with denatured alcohol in case there is grease present .

Never thought of the alcohol, and I'm thinking gorilla glue for the adhesive? Thanks again for all you contribute to this forum.

I just use CA glue as it holds quite well but I think Gorilla make a glue that would work for rubber as well .

I forgot to mention that another reason is that the backing that the L shaped part would get cut in different places and would not provide backing for the cut made in the work piece . I also mark all my pieces before shaping them on the back side which is the side that will be facing up when in the jig .

kiefer, got carried away by following the bouncing ball and finished up at this post, just a tad 2 years late.

Love the concept of he jig and the "simplicity" of indexing.

Downside is finding the appropriate blade and just as importantly finding someone to engineer it and have enough arms and legs left over to walk out their shop and carry the customised blade.

Is there any reason why you didn't opt for adapting the jig to your router table and used a "V" bit (45° or 60°)?

I am fortunate to have access to a laser cutter so I can use the a rack and pinion gear concept for any sized indexer,


However, I'd rather not waste time trying to re-invent the square wheel if you have any pre conceived objections to using the router table for this… tearout per chance?

To me it is simplicity first when I make a jig and the timing/cog belt has been the answer many times .
I use the cutter which is a reshaped box joint cutter and total cost for the blade and sharpening was $60.00
and I have yet to get it resharpend so it by far outlasts a good router bit secondly I get a better cutting finish which most of the time needs no sanding which I attribute to the cutting shear angle and no burning and also allows for a faster feed rate .
I just finished a panel for a box top about 6 "X 10"hard maple and took me about ten minutes .
As far as the jig is concerned it works great for me with the belt as the indexing device but I can also use the fence with a magnetic base and shim to get different spacing with this setup http://lumberjocks.com/projects/142226 and in the end this works for me very well a very little cost .
