Project Information

Something fun to build and play with.

I did this mostly as an experiment in design. After designing it in Sketchup I put it together using poplar. I wanted to build it using only joints and techniques that would have been available during medieval times. Most joints are glued and then pinned using dowels (or in the case of the weight bucket toothpicks).

After I was finished it was a matter of setting up the correct weight in the bucket as well as the length of the string for the sling and the angle on the release pin at the end of the arm. After tuning it up I can throw a small object (just smaller than a golf ball) about 25 feet.

This may lead to a larger version….LOL.

Have fun. I can think of a few people I would have aimed that at before I retired.

This is really cool. Great job and thanks for sharing. If you decide to build a really big one, and need a place to test it out, I have a neighbor that would make a perfect target! LOL

OK, now that you've got the design down, build the bigger on in time for Halloween as a pumpkin launcher.

That is a great job for Sketchup. Your patience to plan this in Sketvhup is worthy of note. Your ability is so noticed.

My son built one about 8 years ago and won his school science fair with it.

Your project brought back nice memories.

I still have it on my bookshelf behind my computer.

Nice job and what a coincidence. I started building one for my G-kids when my saw crapped out. (a blessing in itself). Did you know that there are competitions with the trebuchet throwing pumpkins and watermelons? At least here in NJ there is, so I am sure they are held in other states as well.

I want to thank everyone who has shown such great interest and support in my projects. I must admit to being a bit embarrassed to have 4 of my projects chosen to be in the Daily Top 3 over the past few days. I think that there are so many more projects in Lumberjocks that are more deserving. Your support has given me the encouragement and drive to work harder and to learn more about our wonderful passion of woodworking.

Thanks again!

Thanks for sharing!!!

I always wanted to make some for the folks at work, so we can defend our office from people asking for stuff.

Anthony,

You could upload it to the Sketchup Warehouse if you wanted.
