Project Information

With this design I was playing with weight and balance and incorporating a swooping curve that is attempting to depict a stylized tree-like form that would contrast the straight lines of the drawers and top. The keyboard tray is over an 1 1/2" thick and like the drawers are mounted on soft closing slides. The wood used is walnut and maple and the finish is hand applied polymerized tung oil. The blue inlay is dyed bamboo and I was playing with colour and enjoyed taking the chance with it.

Holy cow, that is an insperation in it self. great form and execution. Iam really taken aside by the wood choices and grain patterns. Move to the head of the class … However one thing I don't understand … why is it held together with Velcro?? As shown in photo 3. :)

Ah, something new at great last! The blue spline is a very nice touch, definately different from the usual ebony :)

The blue does remind me quite a bit of a turquoise inlay, just not quite to that degree since you can still distinguish the grain of the wood.

Hi Folks,

Thanks for the ego boosting feedback, any constructive criticism is always welcome too. I'm not sure I'll ever leave the realm of student as I seem to always be learning something with each project. I had the luxury of time and complete creative freedom with this project. I actually ended up throwing out the plans once I saw how the proportions were coming to life and started over. I'm glad I did.

Thanks to Jim, I have been reading about Art Carpenter and I just love his story. I find it encouraging that someone without academic training was able to make such a contribution to the world of furniture.

I'm moving my shop to Port Sydney, Ontario and if there are any Lumberjocks in that area I would like to possibly meet. I'm going to be pretty isolated out there.

Thanks all
