This is a christmas gift I just completed for my parents. The top and seats are 1.5" thick Cypress and the frame is treated pine. I used treated pine instead of Cypress on the frame for cost, weight, and strength. Cypress is quite light and I was afraid this may blow away on a windy day. The table is quite heavy built the way it is and will definately not blow away!
I used pocket hole joinery for the majority of the construction. This way there are no screws visible on teh top and I didn't have to plug any holes. There are about 300 pocket holes on this project! I used the Kreg jig which works great with Blue Kote screws that are weather resistant. Stainless steel bolts are used to attach the seats to the legs.
The top is 63" in diameter which will seat eight people. The entire length is about 8' long. The table is very sturdy. I jumped up and down on the ends of the seat just to make sure.
I leave it as an option to my parents if they want to stain the cypress or leave it the way it is so it weathers to a silvery gray.
