Project Information

Here are the two finished candle holders of the green cypress that I turned. The whole process took about two months of drying. One and a half in a tank of water and two weeks drying in a closed container, another couple of weeks air drying before the finished turning and application of several coats of shellac. Please, forgive me again for the small images…I'll get this right one day (I hope).

Very nice. What is the size of the turnings. Did you start out as a 4×4 or what.

The first candle holder base is probably around 4.5" and 9" tall. The second, base = 3.5" and 8" tall. I started with a log about 6" in diameter and turned it down to about 4.5" to start. Very few of my turnings are square blanks and if they are it is because they are rived from trees that have fallen or been knocked down during a storm. This particular log was saved from the landfill as a neighbor had put it out to the road for pickup after cutting his cypress tree down. I appreciate you taking the time to comment.
