Project Information

Finally got round to finishing this board I started it in January when I built my router planning jig which made it so much easier to flatten, I have been waiting for the walnut boarder to dry out so I could finish it ever since.

I had trouble glueing up my first board so this time round I divided the board into 3 equal sections glued those up and then glued the 3 big bits together, made getting the pattern aligned a lot quicker.

It's made from American Walnut, Purple heart and Cherry it ended up around 340×490x30mm thick so it should last many years. I designed it using the cutting board program that I was lucky enough to find on LJ if your into cutting boards it's worth a look it really helped me seeing the preview before I cut anything. I finished the board with 2 good coats of mineral oil and beeswax so now it's ready to give to my mum as one of her birthday presents hopefully she'll like it…

That is a great looking board. A good choice of woods, very colorful, and tight grained. I also use a router planning jig to flatten my cutting boards. It works great. I make a clockwise pass around the perimeter first. It reduces the chip out. Then just plane away until it cleans up.
Thanks for posting.
