Cutting Board with a Twist

I am building a pine cutting board for a neighbor who wants to give it as a present. I will try this on a sample and see if he likes it.

Very nice cutting board-I like the way you have arranged the end grain. I also like the effect. How does pine hold up when used as a cutting board? Most of the pine I see (big box stores) is fairly soft-is there a harder version?

I have had great experiences using pine for cutting boards over the past few years and everyone I have given or sold to has loved them . I have read several comments on how pine is too soft but have never experienced that myself. I haven't heard anybody that actually used pine say anything bad about it. I just use standard 2×4, 2×2, 1×2, etc….
